WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: early

Weather conditions:

Temperatures started to increase in ususal time, and snow started to melt in mid May. Weather worsened on 22 May when rain was followed by snowstorm, which continued until 25 May. Snowfall continued for the whole day on 26 May, although weather was windless and temperatures ranged from -4øC at night to +5øC at daytime. Clear sunny weather established from 29 May, and air tempeartures reached +10øC at day time. Generally weather was favourable, and cold weather did not return.

Season temperature: warm
Season humidity:
Date of 50% snow-cover: 31.05
Date of ice-break on rivers:
Date of final loss of snow: 3.06

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

BIrd started breeding two weeks earlier than in 2004, and all pairs of Siberian Cranes and Sandhill Cranes in the vicinity were incubating in late May. Snow has mostly melted by the time of waterfowl migration and it was not intensive in the area. We recorded 25 flocks from 10 to 100 Black Brants passing from 0:53 to 11:55 on 31 May at an altitude 100-150 m. Numbers of Baikla Teal increased dramatically compared with previous years, and they were seen everywhere. A nest of Baikal Teals was found on 12 June with a clutch of 10 eggs. The season was generally favourable for birds.

Rodent dynamics:

Sings of lemming activities and dead animals were recorded. Voles were recorded in fisherman's cabins.

Rodent species recorded:
